“There is no amount of ministry that can make up for a failure at home.” – Beth Moore.
Let me be very honest here…I do not enjoy household duties. I do them because I love my family. I dread cleaning, meal planning, laundry and making beds. When my three boys were little, there were times when it was easier (and more enjoyable) to be doing ministry for others. Outside the home, I didn’t have to deal with the daily grind. Ministering outside the home was so much more rewarding and people actually seemed to appreciate me. I wasn’t breaking up fights, giving timeouts or having to clean Cheerios off the floor for the hundredth time. Working outside the home was an escape and I found myself wanting to be away from home rather than be at home. Until…God started speaking to me about that.
He taught me through a series of events that my life needed to be in right order. Angela’s order had been God, ministry to others, family. God’s order is God, family, ministry to others. He taught me that my biggest and most important ministry IS my family.
When we put our work in front of our family, our family suffers. We send our family the message that our work is more important than they are. If we don’t give our family the attention they need, they will find the attention they need elsewhere. I don’t know about you, but I want to be the one my kids look to, not someone or something else!
If you are feeling that your life is out of balance, please join me in praying the following prayer:
God, if my priorities are out of order, please convict me. Please sound the alarm and help me change my ways so that I can be the (wife, husband, parent, friend, daughter, son) that you have called me to be. Open my eyes to the beauty of putting you first, my family second and the rest will follow. “Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness and all these things will be given to you as well.” Matthew 6:33 Bless my spouse, bless my children and show me how my life can bless you.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen
