Prayer

Making Prayer Powerful!

This morning in prayer, God gave me a GREAT reminder that I want to share with all of you! Do you ever feel like when you pray it just disappears into thin air? Do you feel like your prayers are falling on a deaf ear? Have you ever looked at prayer as a last resort…said something like this, “Well, I guess all we can do is pray”?

Many of us, including me, want to “fix” the situation. I guess to “fix” the situation is a nice way to say “control” the situation. We fix and fix and fix until all we have left is prayer. Throughout the New Testament, we are given examples of how powerful prayer is, yet in our reality, we use it as our last resort.

As I was praying with a group of friends this morning, God showed me an incredible vision. He showed me a picture of a little plastic squirt gun…the one you can buy in a three pack at the dollar store. He showed me that so many times in our hearts of hearts we believe that our prayers are as powerful as this little tiny, cheap squirt gun. That when we pull the trigger, we get a stream that only shoots out about a foot away. We pray and pray and believe that our prayers are not doing a darn thing!

Then He showed me the reality. That when we pray we are really holding a bazooka!! Somehow, we have become convinced that our prayers are not packed with power. I’m reminded of the Scripture in 2 Timothy about Godlessness in the last days. Chapter 3, verse 5 says, “having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power.” Friends, we have power in our prayers! Prayer is one of the offensive weapons that God has given us to change the course of events.

We need to throw away our squirt guns and pick up the bazookas that God is just WAITING to hand us. We need to pray knowing that prayer changes things and that prayer has incredible power. Let me pray for you!

Father, thank you that have given us the ability to pray. Thank you that we can talk to you at any time of the day and that you hear every single one of our prayers. Thank you that there is power in the name of Jesus. Thank you that when we pray in your name, you do amazing things. Father, we hand you the little tiny, cheap squirt guns that we’ve been holding to conquer the giants in our lives and we receive a large bazooka from you to blow away the things that have been holding us back. Thank you that you have blessing upon blessing waiting for us and all we have to do is ask! Amen!
